Our future is environmentally sound.
Our policy is to meet or exceed all regulatory requirements. To do that, we're using a combination of the best
technologies and voluntary pollution-prevention programs. Our policy applies to our international and domestic
operations.
In the Bahamas, where we operate Freeport Power, we've built a platform for viewing natural habitat. The
flamingos have never been pinker. In England, SWEB offers customers green electricity. That's power produced
from hydroelectric, landfill gas, wind, and other renewable sources.
A sampling of our programs in the southeastern United States shows the wide range of our efforts. We plant trees
to offset carbon dioxide emissions.
We reduce emissions by improving the efficiency of our plants, transmission system, and distribution networks. We
burn biomass to help reduce solid waste. By increasing the percentage of gas in our fuel mix, we are further
reducing our per kilowatt-hour emissions. We implement conservation programs, as well as build and enhance
habitats for wildlife.
In addition, we're pioneers in the development of a new clean-running and highly efficient coal-combustion
process. We've also sponsored research studying how rain forests can help offset carbon dioxide emissions. We're
a good corporate citizen, and we care about the environment wherever we serve.
