Southern Company is the largest producer of electricity in the United States. It is the parent firm of five electric utilities: Alabama Power, Georgia Power, Gulf Power, Mississippi Power, and Savannah Electric. Southern Company also owns Southern Energy Inc. This subsidiary develops, builds, owns, and operates power production and delivery facilities, conducts energy marketing and trading activities, and provides energy services to utilities and industrial companies in the United States and international markets. Other Southern Company subsidiaries include Southern LINC, Southern Company Energy Solutions, Southern Nuclear, and Southern Company Services. Southern Company's common stock is one of the 20 most widely held corporate stocks in America.
