Jan. 5, 2012, marked the 100th anniversary of the founding of Alabama Traction, Light & Power, the first in a succession of holding companies that eventually became Southern Company. On that day, Southern Company CEO Tom Fanning hosted a special "Founders Day" event from the company's headquarters in Atlanta, beginning a year-long centennial celebration.
