From the preface to GRI guidelines
Corporate Responsibility Report for year end 2018 highlights our efforts and progress on environmental, social and governance (ESG) topics. This report has been prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards core option. The goal of this report is to provide thoughtful insights into the inner workings of our corporate responsibility through the lens of our company, our people, our community and our world.
In addition, and in response to shareholder requests — we have also produced other relevant reports and disclosure materials, including:
Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) is a program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that tracks the management of toxic chemicals by U.S. industrial facilities, including electric utilities that use coal or oil to generate electricity. Southern Company annually reports the amount and type of chemicals released to the environment and/or managed through recycling, energy recovery and treatment via the TRI program.
