Honoring Black History Month

Honoring Black History Month

March 2, 2018

During the month of February, Southern Company and its subsidiaries honored Black History Month. Through social media posts, newsrooms stories, videos and awards, we highlighted the successes of African American individuals who have impacted STEM fields, civil rights movements and human rights movements.

The month-long celebration aimed to honor the diversity of the past, present and look forward to the future of diversity at Southern Company, within our industry and around the world. We are proud to celebrate Black History Month as well as recognize its significance year-round.

“Creating a workplace environment where people from varying perspectives and backgrounds can contribute to the best of their ability is why we value diversity at Southern Company. We will improve our productivity and effectiveness, and we will eliminate barriers for people to realize their full potential. Honor, respect and appreciate our differences. That will help make us a better company.”

Southern Company CEO Tom Fanning

We believe that cultivating a diverse workplace directly effects the success of our employees, customers and shareholders. Diversity and inclusion is an essential component to building a stronger future, and because of that, we appreciate and celebrate our differences.
