Employees advance diverse leadership within the legal profession
This month, Southern Company attorneys, Kasey Chow of Southern Linc and Ryan Smith of Southern Company Services, will participate in the Leadership Council for Legal Diversity’s (LCLD) landmark Fellows Program. This year-long program is designed to build relationships and leadership skills in high-potential attorneys from diverse backgrounds.
The LCLD is an organization composed of more than 320 chief legal officers and law firm managing partners who are dedicated to creating a truly diverse legal profession in the United States. Southern Company has been an active participant and sponsor of LCLD for the past five years.
“We are proud to be part of LCLD and excited for this opportunity to help foster our internal talent,” said Jim Kerr, Southern Company executive vice president and chief legal officer.
The Fellows Program includes meetings and events that focus on executive presence, self-awareness, management skills and emotional intelligence, in addition to mentorship opportunities from key business and legal leaders of major U.S. corporations.
“Kasey and Ryan are examples of the many promising and engaged attorneys across our system,” said Kerr. “This program will provide a great opportunity to learn valuable leadership skills and network with other future leaders in the legal profession.”
Once they complete the program, Chow and Smith will continue their professional development by attending pro-bono, networking and continuing legal education events organized by the program’s active alumni.
