The TOUR Championship and East Lake Golf Club have become favorites for many players on the TOUR. It’s home to Tiger Woods’ historic 80th PGA TOUR victory. This docuseries relives that historic win at the 2018 TOUR Championship, while highlighting the impact the tournament brings to the East Lake course, neighborhood and city of Atlanta.
The Payne Stewart Award is given annually by the PGA TOUR to a professional golfer who best exemplifies Stewart’s steadfast values of character, charity, and sportsmanship. Southern Company aligns with these same values and has proudly presented the award every year during the week of the TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club. When presenting the award, we always donate to three charities: The Stewart Family Foundation, The First Tee of Metro Atlanta, and an organization of the recipient’s choice.
In acknowledgement of his character, charity, and sportsmanship, Zach Johnson has been named the 2020 recipient of the Payne Stewart Award presented by Southern Company. In 2010, Zach and his wife Kim established the Zach Johnson Foundation. It fulfilled a dream of theirs: helping children and their families in Zach’s hometown of Cedar Rapids, IA, to follow their own big dreams. One year later, they introduced the Zach Johnson Foundation Classic, which raised $1.1 million to support their nonprofit, Kids of Course, with the goal of closing the opportunity gap so all students can be on a path for post-secondary education.Learn More

Southern Company’s golf roots run deep, with a rich history that dates back to 1902.
One of the most noted electric and railroad developers in the country, Henry Atkinson chartered the Georgia Railway and Electric Company in 1902, later known as Georgia Power Company, and he eventually served on the Southern Company board of directors.
He was also an avid golfer, helping found Druid Hills Golf Club and Augusta National Golf Club, and he provided 187 acres of property for the construction of what is now East Lake Golf Club.
Bobby Jones was a legendary golfer and Atlanta native whose home course was East Lake Golf Club. He also served as a Southern Company board member from 1948 to 1971, the longest tenure for any board member.
In 1952, Southern Company created an ad featuring Ted Rhodes, acknowledged as the first African-American professional golfer when he played in the 1948 U.S. Open.
