Curtis Wooten: Southern Nuclear has “always appreciated and supported” his military service
May is Military Appreciation Month, when we honor the service and sacrifice of current and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces. Curtis Wooten, facilities foreman, Maintenance, Plant Vogtle, tells us about his military experience, including how his service has influenced his work at Southern Nuclear.
When and why did you join the military?
I joined in February 2008, because I felt the need to serve my country.
What is/was your role in the military?
My role is a heavy wheel mechanic on a recovery team. We repair and operate all equipment.
Have you been deployed recently? If so, what did your deployment involve?
I was deployed in 2013-14. I was on a protection squad recovery team, and our role was to reduce our footprint in Afghanistan.
Is there anything you wish others knew about serving in the military?
All the benefits that are available to you.
How has your military service influenced your work at Southern Nuclear?
The military has helped me work as a team to complete the mission quickly.
What does Military Appreciation Month mean to you?
I believe that every day that the company supports me in my military career. I am always appreciated and supported.
