Martin Davis named Chief Information Officer

Technology industry veteran Martin Davis has been named executive vice president and chief information officer for Southern Company Services.

Davis - who has spent nearly 30 years leading complex technology organizations in highly regulated environments - most recently served as Wells Fargo's head of enterprise information technology, executive vice president and chief technology officer.

He succeeds previous Southern Company Services CIO Kenny Coleman, who earlier this year was named Georgia Power's senior vice president of marketing. Davis joins the company effective immediately and reports to Southern Company Services CEO Mark Lantrip.

Davis has a deep understanding of technology and has held a wide-range of senior technology and security leadership roles at Wells Fargo and Wachovia, including serving as Wachovia's corporate CIO. He was instrumental in Wells Fargo's integration of Wachovia, leading the technology integration of the largest bank merger in U.S. history.

"With social, mobile and cloud technologies driving a rapid evolution of our customers' expectations, Martin's vast experience in using these technologies will propel the organization forward and challenge us to push the boundaries of innovation and excellence," Lantrip said. "His ability to drive this technology excellence in highly regulated environments, which also demand a high degree of cybersecurity, makes him an excellent addition to Southern Company's leadership."

In his new role, Davis and his organization are tasked with leading a key component of the company's innovation efforts, particularly in developing and implementing cutting-edge technology solutions that improve customers' daily lives. These efforts are expected to work hand-in-glove with the ideas that are coming to life in the recently launched Energy Innovation Center.
