The Disability Equality Index (DEI) has rated Southern Company as one of the “Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion.” DEI is a joint initiative between American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) and Disability:IN (formerly the U.S. Business Leadership Network). The survey is one of the nation’s most trusted comprehensive benchmarking tool for disability inclusion. It provides companies with an objective assessment of their overall business practices and enables them to determine where they stand as a best-in-class organization.

Sam White, senior business analyst for Southern Company Services, recently attended the DEI awards ceremony on behalf of Southern Company, engaged in diversity and inclusion presentations and accepted the “Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion” award.

“It was an honor to accept the DEI award on behalf of Southern Company,” White shared. “Our organization’s culture, accessibility and support services are all built on the strong foundation of diversity and inclusion.”

White joined the company 46 years ago as an intern and is now a business analyst for Southern Company Services. She played an instrumental role in establishing Georgia Power and Southern Company’s newest employee resource group (ERG) the Alliance of Differently-Abled People in Power (working) Together in late 2016. As part of the disability community, White is passionate about advancing inclusion and fostering a supportive work environment.

“Creating a workplace in which every employee can reach his or her full potential is a priority at Southern Company,” said Sloane Evans, senior vice president of human resources for Georgia Power and Southern Company. “We are pleased to receive this meaningful distinction which further supports our efforts of creating an inclusive environment for all employees through ERGs, talent acquisition and supplier diversity.”

Since the DEI's inception in 2015, Southern Company has been listed among the top ranked companies every year and has earned a perfect score for the past two years.
