The PGA TOUR and TOUR Championship recently announced a record $3 million contribution to local non-profit organizations, including the East Lake Foundation, the Grove Park Foundation, Purpose Built Schools Atlanta and The First Tee® of Atlanta. Southern Company has served as the Official Energy Company of the PGA TOUR since 1999 and in 2016, Southern Company became a Proud Partner of the TOUR Championship. Over nearly twenty years of partnership, the TOUR Championship has invested more than $30 million into Atlanta’s East Lake community.
“Our relationship with the PGA TOUR provides a way for Southern Company to communicate our values, celebrates the great, growing city of Atlanta, helps us fuel its economic growth and underscores our mission to be a citizen wherever we serve,” said Tom Fanning, chairman, president and CEO of Southern Company. “We could not be more excited to see $3 million benefit the East Lake community.”
The benefitting organizations are working to create healthy, equitable and vibrant neighborhoods by providing high-quality education for economically disadvantaged children and comprehensive support for families. Additionally, The First Tee is designed to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.
“We are incredibly grateful for the partnership and continued financial support from the TOUR Championship and its sponsors,” said Daniel J. Shoy, Jr., president and CEO of the East Lake Foundation. “The increased focus on providing an enhanced fan experience and the expanded philanthropic impact resulted in the Atlanta community embracing the TOUR Championship like never before. It also resulted in a record-setting donation that the East Lake Foundation is thrilled to share with its fellow Purpose Built Communities partner organizations – Grove Park Foundation and Purpose Built Schools Atlanta.”
