Military Times ranks Southern Company high for employment of veterans for ninth year in a row

Military Times released their Best for Vets Employers for 2018, and Southern Company moved up ten spots, ranking No. 7 in the top 100.

This is the ninth consecutive year the company has made the list and its highest ranking yet. Veterans make up ten percent of our over 30,000 employees and 12 percent of our external new hires.

“It is a tremendous honor for Southern Company to be recognized once again by Military Times,” said Chris Collier, talent acquisition diversity and inclusion director. “We are fortunate to have so many former service men and women in our workforce. We understand and appreciate the value of our veterans and benefit from their leadership, training and commitment -- qualities that are closely aligned with our values that help to position us as we lead the effort of building the future of energy.”

More than 2,000 organizations across the U.S. were sent a rigorous, detailed survey about their company culture, veteran recruitment, military policies and accommodations for reservist employees.

In addition to Military Times, Southern Company has also earned recognition for its employment of veterans from G.I. Jobs and Civilian Jobs, and the company was recently, honored as the Georgia National Guard “Extraordinary Employer Support Award” for 2018.
