There’s no place like home. But for many in the metro Atlanta area, “home” can be out of reach. Atlanta Habitat for Humanity is working to change this reality—its mission is to transform communities by acting as a catalyst for neighborhood revitalization through education, innovative development, partnerships and long-term relationships with families. They work on a variety of projects from building new homes from the ground up to making critical repairs to current homes.

For the thirteenth year in a row, Southern Company’s Technology Organization joined forces with IT organizations from other Atlanta companies to build an Atlanta Habitat for Humanity house. This year’s project, facilitated by long-time Habitat supporter TechBridge, was the first home in Habitat’s new neighborhood revitalization initiative which includes rehabbing existing homes for new homebuyers. Over eight days, volunteers worked tirelessly to turn this house into a beautiful home for Mr. Autrey Love and Ms. Altovise Love, who also took part the rehab efforts. The home was dedicated to the Love family on June 2.

Steven Farrow, SCS technology planning analyst, and Angela Gillis, SCS IT security analyst II, organized this meaningful volunteer effort on behalf of the Technology Organization.

“This project was more than building a house,” Steven says. “It’s making a difference for new homebuyers and our community.”
