Distribution Engineer Emilia Tsemo joined Georgia Power in 2020. Emilia graduated from Kennesaw State University with a bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering after moving to the United States from Cameroon, a country located in central Africa, to pursue her studies. She’s always been interested in math and science but did not realize she had a passion for engineering until her freshman year of college when she was tasked with designing a digital LED display for her robotics course.
Emilia was introduced to the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) her sophomore year in college after a classmate invited her. Looking back, she is so glad she said yes!
“My involvement in SWE influenced my educational and professional career path through leadership development, networking opportunities and personal empowerment,” Emilia shared.
In 2019, Emilia had the opportunity to attend the SWE annual conference in Los Angeles, California. At the conference, she interviewed with Georgia Power and landed the job as a distribution engineer. Fast forward eight months, Emilia feels grateful to SWE for helping to shape her path to get where she is today. When asked what advice she’d give to anyone interested in pursuing a career in engineering, Emilia shared: The great thing about science and engineering is that both are always evolving. Be prepared to learn continuously and work hard, because sometimes engineering is hard work but also it can be extremely fun and rewarding.
