My late father has always told me that I have a learning gift and that my dreams of being an engineer would be realized because I dedicate my energy to what brings me closer to my aspirations. When I started college, although I was still very excited to pursue my engineering degree, it was discouraging at times to be the only woman in many of my classes.
I joined SWE because I wanted representation. I joined SWE because I wanted community. Attending the 2024 SWE Conference gave me the opportunity to join Southern Company, and I am so happy to be here working for a company that values talent like me.

Power Delivery Technology Engineer │Alabama Power
In my first year of college, I was interested in SWE because I wanted to meet and support other women in engineering. By joining SWE, I was able to build a close network of peers across engineering disciplines, as well as refine my interpersonal skills through professional development events.
Engaging in my SWE chapter also gave me the chance to explore a wide variety of professional opportunities, especially through attending the WE24 conference, where I learned about Southern Company and their commitment to supporting an inclusive workforce. Ultimately, the skills and opportunities that I gained through SWE enabled me to begin my career as an engineer at Alabama Power.
