A message from Tom on Veterans Day

Today is one of the great days on the calendar as we celebrate Veterans Day. Thank you to all the veterans across the Southern Company system for your service to this country. All of us owe you and your loved ones an enormous debt of gratitude for your selfless sacrifice and protection of our freedoms.

You represent the best our country has to offer.

Beyond today, we have made it a point of emphasis to create a workplace environment that is welcoming to veterans each and every day. 

As I mentioned during our recent earnings call, I was thrilled when it was announced last week that Southern Company has been named the No. 1 company in the U.S. in the 2021 Best for Vets: Employers rankings released by the Military Times. Not just No. 1 in our area, not just No. 1 in our industry, No. 1 overall among all American companies.

It is an honor that is incredibly meaningful to me and the entire management team.

Southern Company has been recognized for our efforts to connect and provide veterans with a platform for continued success. We provide opportunities for service members to transfer their military skills and training into careers in the energy sector through on-site job training, creating a pipeline for the company to recruit veterans.

We continuously evaluate our recruiting efforts, retention practices and support programs to ensure we are providing the assistance and flexibility veterans and those in the reserves require.

We know that lessons service members receive during their time of service instills in them qualities and values that perfectly align with who we are as a company. At Southern Company, we have a special responsibility to uphold values such as safety, trust, commitment, and excellence while adhering to ideals such as service, leadership, teamwork, equity, discipline, adaptability and focus as we work on behalf of millions of customers to provide clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy.
