Southern Company and Siemens celebrate their long-term relationship with delivery of 200th transformer
<p>This month, Southern Company and Siemens celebrated their 200th transformer delivery.</p>
<p>The transformer, weighing 151 tons (equivalent to 60 pick-up trucks), left the Weiz transformer factory in Austria on October 31, 2017. Southern Company employees flew to the country to join Siemens-Weiz plant employees as they celebrated its departure. It traveled for a month by sea arriving at the port in Savannah, Ga. on December 2, 2017.</p>
<p>The transformer then traveled by train to Macon, Ga. before arriving at the Forest Park storage facility on January 10, 2018.</p>
<p>“Southern Company values the long-term strategic relationship with the Siemens (Weiz, Austria) plant for the supply of power transformers,” said Danny Lindsey, Georgia Power SVP of Power Delivery. “Their products and focus, similar to our own, align through innovative and efficient designs,” he continued.</p>
<p>The factory in Weiz is the world's largest Siemens location for the development and construction of transformers. Weiz transformers are in-service across Southern Company, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi.</p>
<p>“This is a celebratory milestone for Southern Company,” said Billy Ball, executive vice president and chief transmission officer for Southern Company. “This alliance continues to deliver high quality solutions that helps Southern Company provide our customers with clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy.”</p>
