Southern Company employees recognized by EPRI

The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) recently recognized employees from across the Southern Company system with the 2018 Technology Transfer Award. Now in its 21st year, the prestigious award highlights leadership and excellence in research and development initiatives for the energy industry. Southern Company employees have received the Technology Transfer Award every year since its inception.

Working individually and as teams, winners were selected in EPRI’s generation, power delivery and utilization, and energy and environment categories. Their efforts often involved collaboration across several Southern Company business units and subsidiaries.

Winning projects focused on a variety of key industry issues, including methods for improving grid operations, safety and electricity use, optimizing power plant performance, and maintaining solar photovoltaic panels.

Southern Company's 2018 Technology Transfer Award winners, listed by EPRI sector, are:

  • Generation – Will Hobbs (Southern Company Services); Aaron Nickles and Tracy Underwood (Georgia Power)
  • Power Delivery and Utilization – Jason Autrey, Elizabeth Bray, Neil Hutchins and Kuni Scissum (Southern Company Services); James Dorsten (Alabama Power); Lee Welch (Georgia Power); Ron Robertson (Mississippi Power)
  • Energy and Environment – Donna Hill and Justin Walters (Southern Company Services)
